Jackson Roger R. :
Tantric Treasures :
Three Collections of Mystical Verse from Buddhist India.

Oxford, Oxford University Press, 2004, 168 pages, index, bibliography, introduced, translated and annotated by Roger R. Jackson.

New, accessible translations of three classics of Indian Buddhist mysticism: the dohas or couplet treasuries of the great tantric masters Sa raha, Kanha, and Tilopa.
Since their composition around 1000 CE., these dohas - poetic songs of realization - have exerted a powerful influence on spiritual life in India, Nepal, and Tibet. While this poetry has been translated before, these previous translations have often been more concerned with precision than with poetry. Yet these are deeply poetic texts, rooted in vernacular north Indian song styles of the period and replete with mystery, humour, paradox, and profundity, all conveyed with a refreshing, epigrammatic directness.
Roger Jackson's translations allow the poetry to shine through, capturing the essence of the original. He offers a thorough introduction that deftly summarizes the latest scholarship, situating the works in their historical context and making them accessible not only to scholars but also to students and practitioners.
